Challenge: Move away from aging and unreliable packaging equipment that created downtime, maintenance frustration, and parts-availability concerns.
Solution: A growing BestPack equipment base that includes ELVS carton erecting and RS/MSD carton sealing solutions, backed by parts and technical support.
Outcome: Reliable performance earned trust, led to additional BestPack equipment, and gave the plant a stronger foundation for continued automation.
ABOUT UTAH PAPERBOX
Utah PaperBox is a packaging manufacturer with a production environment that depends on cartons moving through the plant consistently. Forming and sealing cases may be only one part of the operation, but when that equipment stops, the effects can quickly reach production, labor, and shipping.
That made equipment reliability especially important as the company evaluated how to improve and automate its carton-handling process.
THE CHALLENGE
Utah PaperBox had experience with older and competitor equipment that created reliability and service frustrations. When a case sealer required extra attention or a needed part was difficult to source, maintenance had to spend time managing the machine instead of keeping the rest of the operation moving.
The company needed equipment that could become a dependable part of daily production. It also needed access to parts and support so a normal maintenance issue did not turn into extended downtime.
The goal was therefore broader than replacing one machine. Utah PaperBox wanted a packaging-equipment platform it could trust enough to continue building around as automation needs grew.
HOW BESTPACK SOLVED IT
Utah PaperBox began adding BestPack equipment across its carton-handling process. The BestPack in the Field visit shows a mix of ELVS carton erecting equipment along with RS and MSD carton sealers.
That equipment mix allows the plant to use the right level of automation for different work. The ELVS can automatically erect uniform cartons and create a steady supply of cases for production. RS and MSD sealers provide different approaches to closing and taping cartons depending on the application and operator involvement required.
The key difference for Utah PaperBox was dependability. BestPack equipment earned a reputation on the floor as equipment the team could run without the same level of concern they had experienced with older systems. Parts availability and technical support also gave the plant a clearer path when service was needed.
As the relationship grew, BestPack could support more of the application rather than treating each machine as an isolated purchase. That includes continued conversations around tape, tape heads, and moving toward 3-inch tape applications where they make sense.
THE OUTCOME
Utah PaperBox continued adding BestPack equipment after the initial experience. That is the strongest evidence of the outcome. Reliable performance gave the plant enough confidence to expand the equipment base and continue moving toward more automation.
A larger BestPack footprint also reduces some of the complexity that comes from operating many unrelated equipment brands. Operators become more familiar with the machines. Maintenance teams can build knowledge around a common platform. Parts and service conversations become more direct. When a new packaging need comes up, the team can start with a manufacturer it already knows.
Most importantly, the packaging equipment becomes less of a daily concern. The objective is not for operators and managers to think about the machine more often; it is for dependable equipment to become part of the normal production flow.
Utah PaperBox’s story shows how reliability can turn a first purchase into a longer-term automation relationship. BestPack solved the immediate equipment problem, supported the machines after installation, and earned the opportunity to help with the next one.
One partner providing it all. Your success, guaranteed. That’s the BestPack Way.
